Last snow report of the season

April 29, 2011

More ski areas will shut down this weekend even though snow cover in the mountains is unseasonably ample.

Sunday will be the last day of operation at Alpental and White Pass, according to their websites.

Summit East, Summit West, Summit Central, Mount Baker, Stevens Pass and Mission Ridge already are closed for the season.

While Alpental traditionally has been open for a Cinco de Mayo skiing and snowboarding party in recent years, its sister resort, Crystal Mountain, is the only resort planning to be open May 5.

Crystal Mountain will be open for spring skiing Thursdays-Sundays until May 8. It plans to offer skiing via its gondola until June 12 and perhaps longer if conditions permit.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow in the mountains today but no precipitation over the weekend.
