EDMONDS, Wash. – An Edmonds man was one of the eight airmen who were shot to death Wednesday by an Afghan pilot in Kabul.

He was identified Friday by the Defense Department as 44-year-old Maj. Philip D. Ambard. He was assigned to the 460th Space Communications Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base, Colo.

The airmen and a civilian contractor killed in a meeting at the Kabul airport were trainers and advisers for the Afghan air force.
