The visiting Crusaders won the first game, 10-2. In the second game, the Saints prevailed, 6-5, when they broke a tie in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Saturday’s games completed the regular season for the Saints (25-22 overall, 21-11 GNAC).
NNU (30-14, 15-13) broke open the first game by pushing across six runs in the top of the six.
Saint Martin’s had a 1-1 lead going into the top half of the six, but reliever Sean Meehan gave up four runs on four hits in one-third of an inning after he replaced tiring starter Antone Saltvick, who pitched 5 innings.
Though the Saints outhit NNU, 10-2, the Crusaders took advantage of nine walks. They Saints left 15 runners stranded.
In the second game, SMU starter Nate O’Bryan limited the Crusaders to one earned run through 52/3 innings, but got a no-decision.
The Crusaders tied the game in the seventh inning by scoring four runs with the help of three errors by the Saints.
But the Saints scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Andrew Elke, Blaine Evans and Bobby Twedt had two hits apiece for the Saints.
TRACK AND FIELD
Central Washington and Seattle Pacific won the men’s and women’s team titles, respectively, at the second annual Saint Martin’s Invitational meet.
The Wildcats cruised to 225 points, besting second-place Western Washington (153) points in the 12-team invitational.
On the women’s side, SPU scored 174 points, bettering second-place CWU (168).
Joscelyn Minton was an individual winner for SMU, winning the women’s 1,500-meter race in 4 minutes, 40.84 seconds.
Kaila Weiks was second in the women’s long jump (16-33/4) for the Saints, while teammate Julianna Sackeyfio took second in the women’s triple jump (35-63/4).
Taylor Yoro was second in the high jump for the Saints at 4 feet, 11 inches.
Elizabeth Thatcher, who set a school record for Saint Martin’s in the discus last week in Bellingham, finished third (136-3).
Samantha Hull was third in he javelin at 135 feet, 10 inches.
