SUV in Tacoma collision might have run red light

May 1, 2011

A 37-year-old Tacoma man died Saturday morning after the motorcycle he was riding struck an SUV. Witnesses told police the SUV had run a red light.

The motorcyclist was identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office as Brian Beale of Tacoma.

He died at St. Joseph Hospital shortly after 11:30 a.m., about 45 minutes after the crash at South 12th and South Stevens streets.

Beale was westbound when a southbound SUV apparently ran the light, Tacoma Police spokesman Mark Fulghum said. Beale hit the SUV.

The crash was still under investigation Saturday night, and it hadn’t been determined whether the SUV driver will face more than a traffic ticket.

Drugs or alcohol didn’t appear to have been involved, Fulghum said.
