A physician who allegedly fled the country with her two children during a divorce and child-custody dispute was charged Friday in Walla Walla County Superior Court with custodial interference.

The Union-Bulletin reports Dr. Kirsten B. Eberhardt, who was an OB/GYN at the Women's Clinic, left Walla Walla in 2009 with her 12-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son in violation of a court-ordered parenting plan.

Gov. Jay Inslee's spokeswoman, Jaime Smith, said this week that the governor plans to sign House Bill 1175, though she wasn't sure when. It passed the Senate April 15 by a 47-1 vote after earlier passing the House. The bill was delivered to Inslee's desk Tuesday.

But the counties won't have enough room in their budget to pay for the new position until at least July 2014, said Pat Austin, Superior Court administrator.

2 injured after driver falls asleep, crashes in Touchet

TOUCHET -- A 24-year-old woman and her passenger were injured Sunday afternoon when their car left Highway 12 and hit the railroad tracks in Touchet after the driver fell asleep.

Sara C. Kawchack was driving a 1995 Subaru Legacy, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

The Subaru had been eastbound within the Touchet city limits when it left the roadway to the right and struck the tracks, the state patrol said.
