Recreational Equipment Inc. opens Friday

May 12, 2011

Recreational Equipment Inc., or REI, opens its new store Friday at Westfield Capital mall. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 9:30 a.m. and the store opens at 10 a.m.

Friday is a soft opening for the store and grand opening activities are set for Friday, May 20 through Sunday, May 22. Activities for that weekend include:

-Commemorative giveaways: The first 200 people -- ages 12 and older -- who visit the store each day will receive a water bottle with REI gift card ranging from $5 to $100 in value. Doors open at 10 a.m.

-Complimentary breakfast: Customers can enjoy free pastries and coffee served each morning an hour before the store opens. The pastries and coffee are sponsored by San Francisco Street Bakery and Olympia Coffee Roasters.

-Bike valet services: Cyclists who ride their bike to the grand opening activities on Friday and Saturday can take advantage of valet parking services from Capital Bicycle Club of Olympia. REI will donate $2 to the bike club for every participating bike commuter (up to $500).

Store hours for the two-story, 25,000-square-foot Olympia location are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point.
