Jonathan Stewart: "I want to give back to as many kids as possible."

• Published July 06, 2011

Former Timberline High School standout and current Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart hosted his second annual Jonathan Stewart Football Camp Wednesday at South Sound Stadium, a place where he dazzled on his way to breaking the state's all-time high school career rushing mark (7,755 yards).

Nearly 200 boys and girls ages 7 to 18 participated in Wednesday's first day. The camp concludes Thursday. Stewart invited a handful of other NFL players to join him in his camp, including Seattle Seahawks running back Justin Forsett.

Last year’s inaugural camp drew 150 kids ages 7 to 14, and Stewart said he hopes to expand the camp to the fields behind North Thurston High School and next to Chinook Middle School.

“I want to give back to as many kids as possible," Stewart said Wednesday afternoon, "... creating a legacy that will eventually be something that will be able to stick around as long as I can."

Stewart graduated from Timberline in 2005 and was drafted No. 13 overall out of Oregon by the Panthers in 2008.
