Clean Water Act doesn’t deserve this

Since 1972 the federal Clean Water Act has stopped billions of pounds of pollution from entering our waters, including Puget Sound, Vancouver Lake and the entire Columbia River Basin.

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler would change that by voting to gut the Clean Water Act by repealing part of the law. I’m disappointed and appalled by her action. She should have stood up for our right and need for clean water and voted against the Dirty Water Bill!

We can’t afford to let Big Coal take us back to the days when our rivers were so polluted that some caught on fire.

Since the Clean Water Act was passed, the number of lakes and rivers that are safe for fishing, recreation and wildlife has nearly doubled. However, Rep. Beutler has catered to dirty industry and polluting interests, who are fighting to eliminate the long-standing protections that Washingtonians have come to rely on.

Herrara Beutler voted for legislation to eliminate any state’s ability to protect its waters from another state’s pollution. It threatens habitats everywhere in the Columbia River Basin. She has abandoned Washingtonians by leaving our waters in the hands of polluters. With this vote, she’s shown she cannot be trusted to protect our region’s health and safety – not now and not ever.
