‘Homeboy’ hits Aberdeen

Country singer-songwriter Eric Church released his album “Chief” in July and promptly debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and the Top Country Albums. He’s had hit singles including “His Kind of Money (My Kind of Love),” “Love Your Love the Most,” “Hell on the Heart” and “Homeboy.” He will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday at D&R Theater, 205 S. A hardcore direction

The music community is gathering for New Direction Fest, a two-day event featuring bands, workshops and speakers performing music and discussing the practical application of hardcore ideals in a grassroots ways. Join activists, community members and labor organizers starting at 4 p.m. today and 9 a.m. Saturday at the Olympia Eagles Ballroom, 805 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia. Admission is $20 for both days in advance, $25 at the door and $15 for a oneday pass. Tickets are available at brownpapertickets.com.

Screwball ‘Baby'

Bring a blanket and chair for Movies at the Mansion outdoor film series. The 1938 comedy classic “Bringing Up Baby” starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant is tonight’s feature at the Lord Mansion, State Capital Museum, 211 21st Ave. S.W. The film will start at 8:30 p.m. Admission is by donation ; $2 is suggested. The evening is sponsored by the city of Olympia Heritage Commission. The movie will play inside the Coach House if it rains.

Blast o• for Planet TUSH

What do you get when you blend science fiction and burlesque? You can find out at “It Came From Planet TUSH! A Summer Fantasia.” With magic and imagination, dance and aerial trapeze, TUSH presents a tribute to all things sci-fi and fantasy in this 9 p.m. show Saturday at Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. S.E., Olympia. A beer and wine garden will be set up upstairs. Tickets are $12-$15 at brownpapertickets.com  , Rainy Day Records and at the box office the night of the show.

Discover the talents of local small-scale crafters, artisans, food vendors and performers as they hit the streets at Make Olympia Street Market on Washington Street between Fourth Avenue and State Avenue in downtown Olympia. The blueberries are ripe and it’s time to celebrate.
