Police arrested 10 people early Sunday morning after responding to a 2 a.m. call of “a group of about 40 people throwing trash cans and signs into the roadway” at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Capitol Way downtown.

According to a news release from the Olympia Police Department:

Responding officers received updates that the suspects were moving west, “continuing to throw things into the streets.”

Police located a group of suspects at Fifth Avenue just east of Deschutes Parkway. The group began dispersing as additional officers arrived. Two witnesses flagged down officers and reported that they both “had been assaulted by several members of the group when they asked them to stop” and put back the items that were being thrown into the street.

With the help of the two witnesses, police were able to detain, positively identify and arrest 10 suspects allegedly involved in the assaults and vandalism.

The 10 persons were taken to the Olympia City Jail. Each was cited for misdemeanor disorderly conduct/riot.

Officers could not be reached Monday to identify the suspects or elaborate on the incident.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call OPD at 360-753-8300 or Thurston County Crime Stoppers at 360-493-2222.
