BALTIMORE — New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez met with a group of Major League Baseball officials Friday to discuss allegations that he participated in illegal poker games.

Rodriguez said the meeting, which was held in Baltimore and lasted around two hours, “went well.”

“They asked questions and I answered them,” he said. “I’ll let them review it, chew on it and then let them come back to us.”

Star Magazine reported last month that several people saw A-Rod playing in games hosted at Hollywood hotels and residences. His publicist denied Rodriguez participated, and the slugger echoed that sentiment in an interview with reporters.

“All the lies, you just can’t put up with that kind of stuff,” Rodriguez said. “You just want facts, and you always want to be treated fairly and I think I have been.”

A-Rod would not detail the line of questioning, but noted that he answered every one of them.

“I said what I had to say, I answered all their questions until they were tired,” he said.

ORIOLES HONOR FLANAGAN

Mike Flanagan was remembered fondly and with no small measure of sadness at Camden Yards on Friday night before the Baltimore Orioles faced the New York Yankees.

It was the Orioles’ first home game since their former star pitcher died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head Wednesday. He was 59.

The team honored Flanagan with a moment of silence before the game. A picture of him in his playing days was displayed under the years he lived, 1951-2011, and his No. 46 was displayed on the right-field scoreboard during batting practice and remained there until the end of the game.

GAMES POSTPONED DUE TO IRENE

Five games have been postponed today because of expected bad weather associated with Hurricane Irene in the New York area.

The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets doubleheader has been rescheduled as a doubleheader for Sept. 8 beginning at 1:10 p.m.

The Philadelphia Phillies and Florida Marlins moved Saturday night’s game to Sept. 15 with a start time to be announced later.

The first game in the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles suspended doubleheader will be held Sept. 8 (start time is undetermined). The second game will be part of a split doubleheader Sunday with 10:35 a.m. and 4:35 p.m. starts.
