Ongoing road construction delays along U.S. Highway 12 this summer will stop for the Labor Day weekend, according to a Washington State Department of Transportation press release. WSDOT will open all lanes between Morton and the east side of White Pass through Monday.

Labor Day weekend traffic is typically heavier than any other weekend of the year on state highways, often doubling the summer weekend average, according to WSDOT.

Contractors have been working to stabilize slopes and repave worn-out sections of U.S. 12 between Morton and Yakima since the beginning of August, using pilot vehicles to lead motorists through four different work zones along a 57-mile stretch of the cross-Cascade highway.
