Two adults and two children escaped a house fire in Olympia early Friday morning.

At 2:50 a.m., the Olympia Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 516 17th Ave. S.E., according to a news release.

The owner of the home was awake and heard noises coming from the garage, where he found fire.

He called 911 and Olympia firefighters arrived 6 minutes later.

Initial arriving crews reported fire from the garage of a 2200 square foot house and basement. Fire was spreading to the attic and possibly the rest of the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from the inside and kept the fire out of the living portion of the home. Fire spread throughout the attic before it was brought under control and put out at about 3:30 am.

The fire response included four Olympia engine companies, one ladder company, two medic units, and a command unit. Additional crews from Lacey/Fire District 3 also assisted. There were no injuries to firefighters or bystanders.

There were no pets in the home.

The residence suffered approximately $125,000 damage. Heat from the fire blistered the siding of the house next door and broke two windows.
