A Buckley City Council member accused of child sex crimes released a statement late Thursday denying the allegations against him.

“I am innocent of all charges,” Randy R. Reed, 54, wrote in the statement released through his attorney, Tanja Vance. “I intend to defend myself and expect to be fully exonerated.”

Pierce County prosecutors charged Reed on Thursday with first-degree child rape and first-degree child molestation, alleging he inappropriately touched the 7-year-old daughter of a woman he knows. Prosecutors also claim he had the girl inappropriately touch him.

A summons has been issued for Reed to appear in Superior Court for an arraignment Sept. 29.

Reed, a computer technician, has served on the City Council for 18 years. In his statement, Reed said he would be consulting with his wife, attorney and others to determine what to do next. He said he’s made no decisions about his future on the City Council.

“I and my family are shocked and saddened by this turn of events,” Reed said.
