The Bears took the opening kickoff and drove 85 yards for a score – capped by Casey Bond’s 7-yard run – on the way to a 24-0 halftime lead that would eventually become a 30-6 victory over previously undefeated South Kitsap in the 4A Narrows League opener for both teams.
“It was a great game for our defense,” Olympia coach Bill Beattie said.
The Bears (3-0) came out throwing behind quarterback Trevor Houser, who attempted 23 passes in the first half. Houser’s 17-yard TD pass to Kyel Alfonso gave Olympia a 30-0 lead in the third quarter.
“Trevor is a great quarterback, and he has a good handle on what’s going on,” Beattie said. “And, our offensive line did a good job of protecting Trevor and opening some holes for our running backs.”
