On the Road for Sept. 18: Rainier Arts Festival

What: The fifth annual event is a mix of artists, workshops, music and displays.

When: Friday through Oct. 2

Where: Whittaker’s Basecamp, 30027 state Route 706 E., Ashford

Artwork: Under a giant tent, more than 20 artists will display their works inspired by Mount Rainier. There will be artists who work in paint, photography, ceramics, textiles, glass, jewelry and sculptures. Among the artists scheduled to be on hand are Bill Carnahan, Dora Hale, Elisabeth Seeger, Roxann Murray, Donavon Preiser, Linda DePretto, Kat Eisenman, Sharon Clark, Greg Harding and Robert P. Lewis.

Workshops: Topics include oil painting, using Photoshop, sculpting and the process of creating a finished piece of art.

Music: There will be live music performed daily. Among the performers, Steve Flynn will be doing a tribute to the music of New Orleans and Jeff Herzog, the 2011 Washington State harmonica player and performer of the year, will perform folk and blues songs with Rusty Williams.

Dining: Food and beverages will be served at the site or you can visit one of the local restaurants.

Bundle up: Be sure to bring a change of warm clothes because it gets cool once the sun sets.

Cost: Free, but there is a charge for some of the workshops.
