Thanks to the propagandists who peddled this lie, and many well-meaning citizens who believed them, we can now see what “adapting” looks like.
“Adapting” means non-stop struggles with ramped-up tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, monsoons, rising sea levels, crop failures, killer heat, and droughts.
Add to this list the cost of a newly recognized negative effect – a twofold increase in civil violence driven by abnormally hot weather – and one has to ask: Is all of this less expensive than developing a profitable, solar/wind/carbon-neutral economy?
Unfortunately, the cost of adapting will keep going up. Human activities are adding more carbon dioxide to the air than ever before. The runaway climate change that this has started will keep getting worse for us until we finally pay the cost of arresting and reversing it.
Meanwhile, ironically, as we now face higher prevention costs than the ones we tried to avoid, we must also pay to repair the massive damage done by the weather juggernaut that our denial of climate science has unleashed.
How to start fixing it?
There is a simple step every voter can take. Never, ever, vote for a climate-science-denial candidate for public office. Demand that they take this well-documented human impact on our planet seriously and turn them out of office if they refuse.
