This week, the City of Olympia will begin transferring wastewater flow from existing septic tank effluent pumping (STEP) systems near Yelm Highway, east of Boulevard Road, to a new gravity system on Yelm Highway.

According to a news release:

When the process is complete, STEP flows will be directed to the new pump station near Brassfield Road on Yelm Highway. The process will take up to three to four weeks.

Residents might briefly smell a sewer odor during the conversion. There is a chance individual STEP systems will receive a high-level alarm on their holding tanks. If an alarm sounds, customers should contact Public Works Dispatch at 360-753-8333. The line is available 24 hours a day.

For more information, call project manager Jim Rioux at 360-753-8484.
