Authorities on Sunday said they still don’t know why an armed Maple Valley man opened fire Saturday near a school in Issaquah before police killed him.

Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff’s Department said detectives still are looking into the 51-year-old man’s background.

The shooting sent children and parents who were attending a youth football game at Issaquah High School running for cover. The gunman died at the scene. There were no other injuries reported.

Urquhart said the man’s identity will be released by the medical examiner early this week.
