Saint Martin’s men’s golf team is in fourth place after Monday’s first day of the Saint Martin’s Invitational at the Olympia Country and Golf Club.

The Saints’ 303 strokes put them in a tie with the University of Victoria – seven shots behind the leader, Dixie State.

Zach Dietz and Brandon Moore lead the way for the Saints with 3-over-par 74s, good for eighth place. Jack Whealdon carded a 76, followed by Matt Epstein and Ben Fosnick at 79.

“Under the conditions, I like the position we’re in,” SMU coach Kevin Bishop said.

Because of steady rain and blustery conditions Monday, the opening day was limited to 18 holes instead of the scheduled 36. The tournament concludes today with one 18-hole round beginning at 8 a.m.
