Three to see: Week 6

• Published October 07, 2011

Aberdeen (1-4 overall, 0-3 EvCo) at River Ridge (2-3, 0-2), 7 p.m. Friday, South Sound Stadium

This is the week for both the Bobcats and Hawks to make a push to try to keep pace in the EvCo playoff race. Both teams are seeking their first league win. River Ridge comes off a 49-28 loss to Chehalis, but did welcome back junior Brad Wallace in that game. Wallace, who missed the league opener a week earlier against Black Hills with a sprained ankle, rushed for 136 yards. The Bobcats are young, and have been hit hard with the injury bug the past few games. QB Caleb Harris is still recovering from a cracked pelvis suffered against North Thurston and RB Spencer Brooks suffered a season-ending knee injury two weeks ago.

Black Hills (3-2 overall, 3-0 EvCo) at Chehalis (4-1, 2-1), 7 p.m. Friday, Bearcat Stadium

The surprising Wolves could make quite a statement on the road against the defensive-minded Bearcats. After an 0-and-2 start, Black Hills has posted three straight wins and is atop the EvCo standings with a half-game lead over Tumwater, which had a “bye” last week. Josh Freeto threw two touchdown passes early, and helped guide Black Hills to a 24-0 win over Aberdeen last week. A big test for the Wolves’ defense will be containing Chehalis QB Mitch Gueller. In last week’s 48-29 win at River Ridge, Gueller had 200-plus yards of total offense, leading the Bearcats to back-to-back wins. It also was the third game Chehalis has scored more than 40 points.

Timberline (1-4 overall, 1-0 3A Narrows) at Yelm (0-5, 0-1), 7 p.m. Friday, Yelm Stadium

Timberline tasted victory last Friday in a 36-14 road win at Wilson, as QB Chris MacNeil continues to impress. The junior had his third straight 200-plus-yard game, throwing for a career-best 249 yards on 10-of-18 completions. He now has 725 passing yards in five games, and leads an offense that ranks second behind Lincoln in points scored in the 3A Narrows League. The Tornados are another team that’s suffered through injuries for most of the season. Yelm was shutout in the first half of a 29-6 Homecoming loss to Capital last week, and ranked fourth in the 3A Narrows League in points allowed (32.6).
