Lacey, Olympia election forums are coming up

Two more community forums are scheduled where residents are encouraged to ask questions of the Lacey and Olympia council candidates.

Wednesday’s forum includes Lacey City Council candidates Jason Hearn, Michael Steadman, Lenny Greenstein, Joe Mihelich, Mark Arras and Jeff Gadman. It begins at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, 420 College St. S.E.

The candidate forum scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. N.W., includes the contested races for Olympia City Council and mayor. The mayoral candidates are Stephen Buxbaum and Dick Pust.

The other races are between Democritus Blantayre and Steve Langer; Nathaniel Jones and Rhenda Strub; and Jim Cooper and Brian Tomlinson.

The first forum was last week with Tumwater City Council and School Board candidates.

Olympia City Councilwoman Rhenda Strub, who normally would have attended the council’ s weekly meeting Tuesday night, was recovering at home after a car crash Monday in Lacey that left her with a mild concussion, her husband said.

The crash happened at 4:14 p.m. Monday when Strub was driving her 2005 Volkswagen Beetle south on College Street and attempted to turn onto 16th Avenue, said Lacey police officer Ryan Haynes. Strub turned in front of a 49-year-old woman who was driving a 1999 Toyota Camry north on College Street, Haynes said.

He said Strub was cited for failing to yield. The other driver, whose name was not released, was not injured.
