Coty Durand Kelly was being held Tuesday at the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of second-degree rape. Superior Court Judge Christine Pomeroy set Kellys bail at $100,000 Tuesday.
Olympia Police Detective Chris Johnstone arrested Kelly on Monday on suspicion of the rape. Kelly already was at the Thurston County Jail in connection with an alleged assault with sexual motivation of a barista that occurred Oct. 7.
A 24-year-old barista at Kickstart Espresso on Old Highway 99 reported that Kelly assaulted her using his bodily fluids. Kelly approached and assaulted her as she was working, Thurston County Sheriffs Lt. Greg Elwin said. A sheriffs deputy arrested Kelly after the barista called 911, and he was booked into the jail.
Johnstone said Kellys clothing and an umbrella matched the description of items that the 17-year-old said the attacker was carrying.
According to court papers:
The 17-year-old said the suspect walked up, talked to her and dropped his pants, then pulled them back up. She described him as mentally ill or mentally disabled. The man dropped his pants again, and she told him to pull them up. After he pulled up his pants, he choked and raped her, she said.
Kelly told court officials he moved to Washington from Nevada in July. He said he has lived in Olympia since August and has been staying at the Salvation Army. He said he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 2010. He is unemployed.
Kelly has a prior arrest in Seattle in July for alleged first-degree criminal trespass.
Police are looking for anyone else who might have had an encounter with Kelly and seek witnesses to the Oct. 4 rape, he said. Anyone with information can call Johnstone at 360-709-2793.
