Fire commissioners negotiate contract

The recent letter to the editor written by Nels Hanson had a few inaccuracies. The Lacey City Council is not involved in labor negotiations with Lacey Fire District 3.

LFD3 is a separate governmental entity with an independently elected board of fire commissioners. Since annexation was approved, the Lacey City Council no longer contracts with LFD3.

The City of Lacey is now a part of LFD3. The Lacey Board of Fire Commissioners are solely responsible for the negotiated firefighter union contract as well as the entire LFD3 budget. All citizens of LFD3 vote for the fire commissioners of their choice.

On Nov. 8, voters will be asked to approve/disapprove Proposition 1, levy lid-lift for LFD3 and elect two new fire commissioners.

Make your voice heard. Please vote on Nov. 8.
