Lewis County Coroner Warren McLeod said he issued arrest warrants Thursday morning for Ron Reynolds and his son Jonathan, following the inquest into Ronda Reynolds’ death in which a jury listed the two as homicide suspects in the 33-year-old’s 1998 death, but quashed the warrants when the prosecuting attorney’s office notified him of a legal issue.

“I was also advised that if the warrants were served prior to the legal issue being investigated and resolved, the county could be liable for lawsuits,” McLeod said. “Based on this information, I quashed the warrants and began an investigation into the legal issue.”

At 10 a.m. Thursday, Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer will announce whether he is filing charges against the two men.

On Friday, McLeod will reconvene the inquest at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 2 of District Court at the Lewis County Law and Justice Center to disclose the legal issue and resolve the inquest.

“I am not at liberty to discuss any further the specific legal issue but I wanted to reply to the many inquiries about whether or not I had issued the warrants after the verdicts were delivered,” McLeod said.
