MOUNT RAINIER: Nisqually Road to close for short time today

The Nisqually Road in Mount Rainier National Park will be temporarily closed for a short time today. The road is expected to be closed from about 9:30-11 a.m.

The closure is necessary for visitor safety while park staffers remove some hazardous trees along the roadway in the Twin Firs area between Kautz Creek and Longmire.

The roadway will remain open west of Kautz Creek and east from Longmire to Paradise during this period.

Motorists traveling near Burbank need to be prepared for part of highways 12 and 124 to be temporarily closed.

Highway 124 from the intersection with Highway 12 to Lake Road closed will remain closed this weekend. It reopens at 5:30 a.m. Monday.

The closure is because of the continuing construction work to build a new interchange at the highways to reduce the risk of collisions, the Washington Department of Transportation said.
