Shredding school books is wrong

I was at the Tumwater School District library book sale on Oct. 15. It was heartbreaking to find out from the staff there that whatever materials were left over (and there were mounds of boxes) were going to be shredded.

There were boxes of textbooks that had never been used, boxes of good-quality used textbooks, boxes of library books, etc.

Apparently there is no program in place to donate usable materials to poorer districts.

I am sure some other schools could have benefited from the donation in the U.S. and abroad.

My tax dollars at waste.
