The Port of Olympia is in discussions with a national hotel company that might bring them to the port's East Bay property along State Avenue.

Port Executive Director Ed Galligan said he hopes the port will be able to announce an option agreement with the hotel developer before year's end. An option agreement is a preliminary step in the development process, he said.

This wouldn't be the first time that a hotel operator has shown interest in the port's East Bay site.

Hilton Hotels Corp. has expressed interest in the property in the past and Seattle-based developers, Tarragon, once planned to meet with Olympia city officials to discuss a five-story hotel at the same site. They later postponed those plans for a 232,000-square-foot hotel.
