The Timberline Blazers got the bounce-back victory they needed going into the playoffs with a 41-0 shutout of Foss in Lacey on Friday.

The Blazers earned the second seed from the 3A Narrows League and will travel to Seattle Prep for next week’s state preliminary round game at 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Stadium.

Timberline coach Nick Mullen made a change at quarterback, starting Brandon Wetzel. Wetzel was effective, completing 6 of 8 passes for 104 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown to James Segura-Mitchell.

“We needed to make a change,” Mullen said. “You have to get all your guys on the field. Playoffs are coming and it’s do-or-die.”

Timberline’s defense also was impressive, holding Foss to negative yardage.

Segura-Mitchell was an instant spark for the Blazers, and ran for an 80-yard gain on the first play from scrimmage to give Timberline a 7-0 lead. He had 125 yards on just four carries.

Segura-Mitchell and Spencer Crump had two touchdowns apiece.
