Levy supports vital programs

As the parent of a North Thurston High School student and an employee of the North Thurston School District, I have had the opportunity to experience the benefits of a supportive community that has said “yes” to education.

My son has received a quality education by highly qualified and caring teachers. He has had the opportunity to participate in both the performing arts and sports programs. These programs have taught him the value of teamwork, commitment and hard work.

As a special education teacher, I have also experienced the benefits of passing the levy.

Small-group instruction, alternative curriculum and professional training are just a few of the many benefits that are supported by this levy funding. These supports are critical for the continued support of our neediest learners in the classroom.

Residents of the North Thurston School District have demonstrated their support in the past by voting to pass the 2010 educational programs and operations levy. This levy helped pay for classroom teachers and student programs. These programs reached every student in every classroom across the district in some way.

The programs include visual and performing arts, athletics, career and technical education, special education, and advanced placement. This levy is due to end in 2012.

I encourage every resident of the North Thurston school district community to support our children by once again voting “yes” on the replacement educational programs and operations levy which will be on the ballot on Feb. 12, 2012.
