HYDROPLANES: Auburn’s Villwock wins hydro points title

Veteran driver Dave Villwock, from Auburn, clinched the 2011 hydroplane points title by winning the first heats at the Oryx Cup World Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Villwock pilots the U-96 Spirit of Qatar for Ellstrom Racing.

“It’s been a difficult season and that’s what championships are supposed to be about,” said a delighted Villwock. “If it was easy, everybody could do it. …”
