Nisqually bird walk

Join Phil Kelley on a bird walk as he counts birds at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge; the group views the entry road estuary and then takes the boardwalk/trail loop out to the Twin Barns and the Nisqually overlook area; 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday; meet at the visitor’s center pond overlook; entrance to the refuge is $3, but the walk is free; for information, contact Kelley at 360-459-1499 or scrubjay323@aol.com.

Oly Trot

Take part in the second running of the event; the family friendly event is a 4-mile course around Capital Lake and through the Capital Campus; the race is a benefit for the Thurston County Food Bank, all runners are asked to bring two cans of nonperishable food; 9 a.m. Thursday, Heritage Park, Olympia; $35 per person; register at active.com.

Get the right range

This session will look at rangefinders, rangefinders and binocular combinations and rangefinder binoculars; staff will be on hand to answer questions about these different systems to help determine what best meets your needs; 2:45-3 p.m. Saturday; Cabela’s, 1600 Gateway Blvd. N.E., Lacey; free; 360-252-3500.

Take a ride

Join the Capital Bicycle Club of Olympia for this bike ride; the ride will cover 29.5 miles at a pace of 13-16 mph; be ready to go at 10 a.m. Saturday; meet at Starbucks, 4660 Whitman Lane S.E.; Lacey; if the weather is lousy, plan to sip coffee and talk cycling; ride leader is Doug Drake, 360-486-9937.
