Allie Bakotich

Age: 17.

School: Timberline High School in Lacey.

Grade: 12.

Parents or guardians: Cyndie and Pasco Bakotich III.

Best personal achievement: Having Timberline’s girls varsity soccer team go to state for the first time in 20 years, while I was captain of the team.

How I spend my time: Doing homework, playing soccer and spending time with my family and friends.

Favorite subjects: English and government.

Favorite movies: “The Notebook” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Favorite book: “A Great and Terrible Beauty” by Libba Bray.

Dream job: Disney princess in Disneyland.

Someone I respect: Mr. (Dan) Hardebeck, my junior year Advanced Placement English teacher and my student newspaper adviser.

The hardest part of being a student is: The stress.

My ambitions or career aspirations include: Attending the University of Washington in the fall, pursuing a premedical degree and becoming a physical therapist.

Someone famous I would like to meet: Ryan Reynolds. He’s absolutely dreamy.

Someday, looking back on my life, I’ll be able to say: “I worked for everything that I will have gotten, and I won’t have any regrets.”

Biggest challenge facing teenagers today: The amount of stress that they put on themselves at school, such as Advanced Placement classes, clubs and sports.

One thing in the world I would change if I could: Find a cure for cancer and any other life-threatening illnesses.

Nominated by: Counselor April Olson, who wrote, “Allie is a bright, dependable student who teachers and coaches alike find always puts her best foot forward. She has a relentless work ethic and isn’t satisfied unless she has a good understanding of the material. Beyond Allie’s exceptional academic skills, she is also a kind and compassionate person.”

Colton Tucker

Parents or guardians: Doug and Veronica Gemmell; and Wes and Erin Tucker.

Best personal achievement: Getting a perfect first job. I’ve been working at the same place for more than a year and still enjoy it. I’m a lifeguard and swim instructor for Lacey Parks and Recreation.

How I spend my time: I spend most of my time hanging out with my friends and girlfriend or at my job. Outside of these activities, I like to work on my Honda, snowboard, play soccer and play Xbox 360.

Favorite subjects: Any genre of science.

Favorite movie: “Step Brothers.”

Favorite books: “Calvin and Hobbes” by Bill Watterson and “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy.

Dream job: Robotics engineer for NASA or the military.

Someone I respect: My mom, for helping me get this far.

The hardest part of being a student is: Balancing work, activities and social life with schoolwork.

My ambitions or career aspirations include: Graduating from a four-year university and getting a job in engineering.

Someone famous I would like to meet: Jack Bauer.

Someday, looking back on my life, I’ll be able to say: “For all the times I thought it wasn’t worth it, it was.”

Biggest challenge facing teenagers today: Peer pressure or preparing early on for college.

One thing in the world I would change if I could: I would evenly distribute all of the world’s wealth. Oh hasn’t this been tried before?

Nominated by: Science teacher Greg Burkhart, who wrote, “Colton Tucker has an amazing ability to understand difficult physics problems. He is an order of magnitude ahead of his peers in Advanced Placement Physics in his ability to write up laboratory investigations with insight and professionalism.”
