The second annual Fallen Officers Food Drive – created in honor of four Lakewood police officers killed in 2009 – raised 39,000 pounds of food and $35,000 for the Emergency Food Network, the Lakewood Police Department said Tuesday.

The weeklong drive, which began on the anniversary of the officers’ deaths, ended Monday. Last year, the inaugural food drive brought in $31,034.84 and 23,171 pounds of food.

The drive honors police Sgt. Mark Renninger and officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens and Greg Richards, who were gunned down Nov. 29, 2009, inside a Parkland coffee shop.
