The Olympia School District placed Marshall Middle and Hansen Elementary schools on partial lockdown Thursday morning after police found a stolen vehicle in Marshall’s parking lot, and witnesses reported seeing a man carrying a large knife leave the vehicle. The suspect later was found.

Several people had called 911 to report a vehicle being driven around the neighborhood and stopping at houses randomly.

A Honda Element matching the callers’ description was found in the parking lot, and police learned that an Olympia resident had reported it stolen Sunday.

A woman was in the Honda when police arrived, but a man who had been seen driving it was not. The driver had walked into the woods carrying the knife, witnesses said.

Police identified the man and learned that he had two outstanding felony warrants. That’s when the schools were partially locked down.

A Lacey police dog led officers to a home in the 2200 block of Crestwood Place Northwest. It appeared to have been burglarized, and Olympia police, Thurston County sheriff’s deputies and corrections officers responded.

Police found a man hiding in an attic, and witnesses identified him.

The 23-year-old man and his 22-year-old passenger were arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen car, burglary and attempted burglary, according to Olympia police.
