The Atlanta Falcons said coach Mike Smith was taken to a Charlotte hospital "for a non-emergency matter" following Sunday's win over the Panthers.

The Falcons released a statement late Sunday night:

"Following the Falcons game vs. Carolina today, head coach Mike Smith was transported to a hospital in Charlotte for a non-emergency matter," the statement said.

"Coach Smith is resting comfortably, his tests reaffirmed his health, and he is expected to be in Atlanta on Monday. The Falcons will provide further information as it becomes available."

Smith, 52, was rewarded in February with a three-year contract extension. The Falcons won Sunday's game, 31-23.
