Two Lacey residents found themselves in handcuffs Friday night after they chose the wrong home to burglarize, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office.

A former deputy who lives in the Johnson Point area found some of his belongings stacked behind his house, called 911 and then hung around to see if the thieves would return to claim their loot.

They returned about 9 p.m., and the homeowner was waiting for them with a baseball bat and handcuffs. He smashed the taillights of the suspects’ vehicle – in case they fled, they’d be easier to track – then physically restrained and handcuffed one of them. Deputies and a K-9 unit later tracked down and arrested the other suspect.

The Olympian is not naming the suspects because they haven’t been charged with a crime.

Investigators will compare this incident to others to check whether the suspects are linked to other burglaries.
