A woman reported about 12:45 p.m. Friday that she’d been assaulted by a knife-wielding man on the Olympia Woodland Trail, according to Olympia police.

Also according to police:

The woman, who was in her 30s, was walking on the trail near Frederick Street Southeast and said she was wearing headphones when she was grabbed from behind by a man with a knife. The man briefly held her around the throat while showing her the knife.

The woman was able to free herself, and the man fled into the woods. He was described as white, 5 feet, 10 inches with a medium build, wearing a black stocking hat and a brown sweater or jacket.

Multiple police agencies responded, as well as a K-9 unit. A man was found who appeared to be attempting to hide from officers; he matched the general description the woman had given. He was arrested on an unrelated warrant and booked into the Olympia City Jail.

Olympia detectives are investigating.
