Orca Books had money stolen from its safe over the holiday weekend, owner Linda Berentsen says.

The theft was discovered about 5 p.m. Monday and could have occurred anytime between Saturday and then, Berentsen said. She said a significant amount of cash was stolen, creating a burden for the store.

There were no signs of forced entry; Berentsen said the theft might have occurred during business hours.

“We all feel really terrible,” she said.

Orca has operated on Fourth Avenue downtown since 1993, Berentsen said.
