Turn on headlights, wear light clothing

It is a dark winter morning. I emerge onto College Street. The sky is gray, the road is gray, and oh-oh. Here comes a gray car with no lights.

Do I see it? Nope. But by God’s grace I miss it.

It is late at night. Now the sky is even darker, with an overcast hiding moon and stars. Thanks for street lights, I can barely make out the silhouette of a person crossing the road ahead of me. He or she thinks my headlights will pick them up. Another near miss.

The problem, as I perceive it, is that we as drivers think if we can see others they can see us. But it doesn’t happen that way.

Please, people, use your headlights, and wear light or reflective clothing at night. I don’t want your mistake to become our tragedy.
