thurston county food bank is in need of clean, untorn paper grocery sacks. If you can help, drop them off between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays at 220 Thurston Ave. N.E., Olympia.

olympia community bluegrass show Blackberry Bushes, Mission Mountain, and Black River Bluegrass will be featured performers at a fundraiser benefiting SafePlace and Bread & Roses from 6:30-9 p.m. Friday at South Sound Manor, 455 North St. S.E., Tumwater. There will be an after-show jam session from 9-10 p.m., so bring your instrument and share a tune.

Italian wine tasting and appetizers Uncork and Unwind will open its doors from 2-6 p.m. Jan. 15 for a private wine tasting to benefit the Olympia Sons of Italy Scholarship Fund. Pay $20 to get five tastes and one full glass of their favorite wine. Additional glasses of wine, bottles and food will be for sale with a percentage going to the group. There also will be a 50-50 cash prize raffle. Uncork and Unwind is at 324 Custer Way S.W., Tumwater.

the illuminated ball shopping expedition Do you need a new dress or jacket for the Illuminated Ball? Enjoy an afternoon of shopping with complimentary wine and cheese from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 at Mandelin’s Clothing & Accessories Consignment, 222 Division St., Olympia. Ten percent of sales will be donated to support Procession of the Species and its Art Studio. 360-705-1087.

righteous mothers and steve schalchlin Enjoy one of two concerts put on by New York City’s award-winning composer, lyricist, pianist and performer Steve Schalchlin, along with Olympia’s own Righteous Mothers, all to benefit PFLAG. The concerts begin at 8 p.m. Jan. 27 and 28 at Traditions Cafe, 300 Fifth Ave. S.E., Olympia. Suggested donation is $25.
