VandenHazel is averaging 15.2 points per game (which is second-best on the team behind Carly McIsaac's 16.5 ppg), and leads the Thunderbirds in rebounds and blocks. She had a career-high 22 points in Tumwater's season-opening win over Capital on Nov. 28.
Northwest Christian, which competes along with Evergreen in the NAIA's Cascade Collegiate Conference, is currently 8-11 overall.
Other signees and commitments: Olympia senior Christie Colasurdo, who helped the Bears to the 4A volleyball state title in November at Saint Martins University, signed to play volleyball at Western Oregon University, where shell join former Olympia teammate Megan Triggs. Colasurdo, an outside hitter, was the MVP of the 4A state tournament. ... Capital junior Alyssa Edenstrom has given a verbal commitment to play soccer at the University of Portland, her father, Grant, said. UP has won two national championships (2002, '05) in women's soccer. Edenstrom, a forward, led the Cougars to the 3A Narrows League title this past fall, but had her junior season cut short due to a knee injury.
