Capital swimmer Tyler Sharp is an inspiration for what he doesn’t have

• Published January 17, 2012

As a reporter, I’ve come across a lot of touching stories, and Capital High School junior Tyler Sharp is the most inspirational person I’ve had the pleasure to write about.

Tyler was born without a left hand and the majority of his left forearm. That hasn’t stopped Tyler from accomplishing anything he wants. This season, he turned out for Capital’s boys swim team. This kid is truly amazing.

At 16, Sharp does not see what he is missing as a handicap or disability. It is all he’s ever known.

“I like how I am,” he said. “I don’t want to change.”
