“We’ll get through it,” said Clark, North Thurston High’s athletic director.
Most schools have at least three days’ worth of sporting events to reschedule, including schools in the Evergreen Conference. In basketball, this week’s games were supposed to be the start of the second half of the EvCo schedule for boys and girls.
Clark, the EvCo’s basketball commissioner, and the rest of the league’s athletic directors decided Thursday morning to have Thursday’s three scheduled boys basketball games moved to today to ease future rescheduling messes.
But that didn’t last long.
Just hours after rescheduling those games, the Aberdeen-North Thurston contest in Aberdeen was postponed. Shortly thereafter, North Thurston Public Schools and Tumwater School Districts were some of the first districts to announce schools would be closed again today.
The week’s postponements around the area began Monday with the cancellation of the “I Have A Dream” basketball tournament in Tukwila, where the Timberline girls were supposed to play Lynnwood. Since then, nearly 100 prep events have been postponed.
Two local colleges – Evergreen State and South Puget Sound – also have suffered setbacks. It was announced Thursday afternoon that Evergreen’s men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader today againt visiting Northwest Christian University has been moved to Sunday because of the weather. The games will tip off at 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men) at the CRC Gymnasium.
The SPSCC men’s and women’s doubleheader with Tacoma Community College that was scheduled to take place Thursday night has now been moved to Monday night at 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men) in Tacoma.
