Small luxuries such as lights, heat and hot water returned to thousands of homes in South Sound on Sunday, including downtown Olympia and parts of Tumwater.

However, Puget Sound Energy said about 30,000 Thurston County homes and businesses remained without power late Sunday. Many of those outages were in rural areas including Rochester, Yelm and Tenino.

The utility company has restored power to about 80 percent of its customers across the region who suffered outages in last week’s snow and ice storms, PSE spokesman Roger Thompson said.

“We’ve had some pretty good success,” he said. “The weather has been reasonably cooperating. … We’re steadily making progress.”

Crews were scheduled to work through the night despite a forecast that winds could reach 45 mph.

Folks who live in remote and forested areas should have power restored during the next few days. Those who already have power restored are asked to conserve power to make it easier and safer to bring the rest of the system back online.

Here are the company’s estimated times and dates for restoration.

Early Monday: Yelm, Steamboat Island and Hawks Prairie.

Late Tuesday: Johnson Point, Summit Lake, Tumwater, West Olympia and Cooper Point.

Late Wednesday: Lacey, Bald Hills, Delphi Road, Tenino and Rochester.

SCHOOL DELAYS

South Sound schools still face delays and closures:

North Thurston Public Schools: As of late Sunday, seven schools were without power. A decision to delay or close schools will be made by 5:30 a.m. Families can check the district’s website, www.nthurston.k12.wa.us, for updates.

The Olympia School Board’s 6:30 p.m. meeting is moved to the Knox Administrative Center instead of the Olympia Regional Learning Academy.
