South Sound highlights for Jan. 26

In girls basketball, Taylor Sunkel (12 points), Jackie Steiger (11 points) and Darian Dickey (11 points) were all standouts in South Kitsap’s 66-40 win over Narrows League rival Stadium. Amy Yun scored 10 points for the Tigers.

Timberline’s Sasha Weber had a game-high 21 points for the Blazers in their 49-29 win over 3A opponent Foss. Franchesca Borja added 11 points for Timberline.

Gig Harbor’s Leah Davis (12 points) and Naphtalie Ward (10 points) led an offensive attack that proved to be too much for Shelton to overcome, 48-30.

Olympia’s Sarah Snodgrass (8 points) and Nichole Schroeder (7 points) couldn’t score enough to help the Bears overcome a 65-47 loss to Bellarmine Prep. The Lions were led by Jasmyne Holmes’ 15 points.

Yelm’s Jaynani Cababat had 21 points, seven rebounds and six steals, and Jessica Amundsen added 17 points in the Tornados’ 60-53 victory over Lincoln. Precious Hunkin scored 19 points for the Abes.

The Shelton boys basketball team was unable to overcome a 25-point deficit – after trailing Gig Harbor 42-17 at the half. The Tides got a game-high 27 points from Cyrus Ward.
