In girls basketball, Taylor Sunkel (12 points), Jackie Steiger (11 points) and Darian Dickey (11 points) were all standouts in South Kitsap’s 66-40 win over Narrows League rival Stadium. Amy Yun scored 10 points for the Tigers.

Timberline’s Sasha Weber had a game-high 21 points for the Blazers in their 49-29 win over 3A opponent Foss. Franchesca Borja added 11 points for Timberline.

Gig Harbor’s Leah Davis (12 points) and Naphtalie Ward (10 points) led an offensive attack that proved to be too much for Shelton to overcome, 48-30.

Olympia’s Sarah Snodgrass (8 points) and Nichole Schroeder (7 points) couldn’t score enough to help the Bears overcome a 65-47 loss to Bellarmine Prep. The Lions were led by Jasmyne Holmes’ 15 points.

Yelm’s Jaynani Cababat had 21 points, seven rebounds and six steals, and Jessica Amundsen added 17 points in the Tornados’ 60-53 victory over Lincoln. Precious Hunkin scored 19 points for the Abes.

The Shelton boys basketball team was unable to overcome a 25-point deficit – after trailing Gig Harbor 42-17 at the half. The Tides got a game-high 27 points from Cyrus Ward.

Tumwater’s Luke Hare drove in Peyton Olson with a single to give the 2A Evergreen Thunderbirds a 1-0 baseball victory over Aberdeen. Hare also picked up the win after five innings of pitching.

Black Hills’ Drew Devoe provided three of the Wolves’ seven hits in a 4-3 win over EvCo host River Ridge. Devoe hit two doubles in an offense that scored all its runs in the second inning.

Wednesday's prep highlights: Tumwater's Daniel Hinkle has career night in loss to White River in boys basketball

In spite of Daniel Hinkle's career-high 36 points, Tumwater's boys basketball team lost its season-opener, 76-71, to White River on Wednesday night. Hinkle was the only Thunderbird to score in double figures. Tumwater (0-1) trailed by as many as 12 in the fourth quarter before making a late-game comeback.

Thursday's highlights: Yelm wrestlers take down Timberline; NW Christian player surpasses 1,000 career points

Yelm wrestlers capped off an unbeaten 3A Narrows League campaign with a 52-21 dual meet victory over Timberline Thursday night at Yelm High School. The Tornados started off the match with six consecutive victories, including Darren Harris' epic win at 113 pounds over Timberline's Dean Reginio with a 4-minute, 40-second pin. Harris and Reginio are ranked Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, in the latest 106-pound state rankings.
