Thursday's highlights: Yelm wrestlers take down Timberline; NW Christian player surpasses 1,000 career points
Yelm wrestlers capped off an unbeaten 3A Narrows League campaign with a 52-21 dual meet victory over Timberline Thursday night at Yelm High School. The Tornados started off the match with six consecutive victories, including Darren Harris' epic win at 113 pounds over Timberline's Dean Reginio with a 4-minute, 40-second pin. Northwest Christians Kami Bates had a special night as she scored a game-high 28 points and according to coach Ron Collins became the first girls basketball player with 1,000 career points scored for the Navigators. The Navigators went on to win, 46-38, over Naselle. Bates came into the game with 988 points, and she scored 15 in the first quarter to surpass the 1,000-point mark.Kyarhi Adams and Necy Wade down the stretch lifted River Ridge to a 59-57 victory over Black Hills. Wade led all scorers with a game-high 27 points. The Wolves led by one with 17.1 seconds left before a basket by Adams and Wade sealed it at the line to give the Hawks the home victory. The combined offensive attack of Elyssa Quichocho (14 points) and Ciara Williams (13 points) helped spark North Thurstons 51-32 road win over Tumwater. North Thurston wrestling secured a 57-24 home win over 2A Evergreen Conference rival River Ridge. North Thurstons Dallin Carlson pinned Cortney Henderson in 14 seconds. River Ridges Jacob Zocco pinned North Thurstons Ocean Wadleigh in 1:07.
