Black Hills, Shelton, Timberline bowling teams advance to state Feb. 3-4

Black Hills, Shelton and Timberline’s girls bowling teams each qualified for the state bowling tournament Feb. 3-4 at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place.

District III 4A and 3A/2A tournament
At Pacific Lanes, Tacoma (Saturday)
Timberline placed third at the District III 3A/2A tournament Saturday in Tacoma with 3,171 total pins. Senior Kelsi Mayther won the individual title with a three-game total of 609, including a 233 in Game 2. Teammate Hannah Ganzfried was 10th (524). The top three 3A/2A teams from District III advance to state, and the top six individuals not on state-bound teams advance to state. Yelm’s Brooke Lunsford placed fifth individually (499). Wilson won the team title with 3,390 total pins, followed by Bremerton with 3,205. In 4A, Shelton placed third as a team with 3,075 points to advance to state. The top five 4A teams and 10 individuals not on state-bound teams advance to state. Shelton was led by Danielle Ewart’s ninth-place finish (557).

District IV 3A/2A tournament
At Triangle Lanes, Longview (Friday)
Black Hills placed third at the District IV 3A/2A bowling tournament Friday in Longview, finishing with 3,468 total pins. The top three teams and top six individuals not on state-bound teams advance to state. Mark Morris won the team title with 4,069 pins, followed by Kelso’s 3,871 pins for second place. North Thurston’s Natalie Burres rolled a 526 to place fourth. Teammate Mallory Dobbs is a second alternate after rolling a 498. Black Hills senior Nicole Hayes was South Sound’s highest individual placer at sixth overall. She rolled a 407, including a 213 in Game 1.
