Three-OT thriller: Capital boys outlast Foss, 104-100, in triple overtime

Capital's boys basketball team is back in the playoff race after its wild 104-100 triple-overtime victory over Foss Monday night at Capital High School.

The Cougars are winners of two straight games, and improve to 4-3 in the 3A Narrows League and 10-8 overall. The victory over Foss puts them one game ahead of the Falcons for third place in the 3A Narrows. The top three teams advance to the playoffs.

Capital had three players who scored 20 or more points, and four total in double figures. Senior Karl Peterson had a career-high 26 points, including a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. Keenan Williams had 25 points on 8 of 16 shooting and Jared Eidenmuller had 23, including 4 of 10 from long distance. Justin Rudd chipped in with 16.

In all, Capital made 32 of 39 free throws, and got 26 points off 28 Foss turnovers. Dontiea Hankins' 21 points paced four Falcons in double figures.

Capital led by two, 51-49, going into the fourth quarter. Each team scored 10 points in the first overtime, followed by 12 in the second overtime. Capital outscored 10-6 in the third OT to seal the win.

Other Monday highlights

Boys basketball
Timberline earned its first 3A Narrows victory -- a 61-54 win over
Yelm -- to snap its eight-game losing skid. Cooper Podowicz (16 points) and Donaven Dorsey (15) paced the Blazers, who improve to 1-6 in league and 6-11 overall. Brian Miskimens' 18 points led the Tornados, who dropped their 10th straight.

Olympia outscored South Kitsap 25-9 in the second quarter en route to a 75-49 home win over the Wolves to remain tied for first place in the 4A Narrows League. Four players -- David Carlson, Alex Johnson, Dominick Francks, Brenden Leonard -- scored in double figures, led by Carlson's game-high 16.

Rainier held Tenino scoreless in the first quarter, and got a game-high 19 points from guard Dalton Delio in the Mountaineers' 52-37 win over the Beavers.

Girls basketball
Two Timberline players -- Sasha Weber (game-high 28 points, 12 rebounds) and Cierra Martin (18 points, 11 rebounds) posted double-doubles, as the Blazers beat Yelm, 59-49. The Blazers, winners of three straight, improve to 6-1 in league and 11-5 overall.

Freshman Sarah Snodgrass paced Olympia with 12 points in its 64-44 loss to South Kitsap.

In spite of Sophie Rice's 12 points, Capital dropped a 42-37 contest to Foss.

Rainier knocked off second-place Tenino, 44-28.
