OLYMPIA – Olympia police are looking for a man who reportedly knocked a woman down and tried to steal her purse Tuesday in the Trader Joe’s parking lot off Black Lake Boulevard.

The woman, who is in her 50s, fought hard and held on to her purse “for dear life,” officer Carolyn Barclift said. The man fled after an onlooker chased him.

Police combed the area and set up a K-9 track, Barclift said. The incident occurred about 1:40 p.m., she said.

The suspect was described as a black male, 19 to 25 years old, with no facial hair and wearing a dark hoodie, Barclift said. He may have been wearing blue jeans, she added.

The woman hit her head on the ground and was treated for minor injuries, Barclift said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
